What an amazing experience it was to photograph in an 11th century UNESCO World Heritage site!
Being so privileged to be invited to photograph in the Panagia Asinou Church, I was incredibly excited at the thought of what lie ahead and upon arrival I quickly set about photographing Georgios with his family in the shade under a wonderful arch outside the church, before the ceremony was due to commence. The church inside is absolutely breathtaking! It contains some of the finest Byzantine wall paintings on the island and in the world, dating from the 12th to the 17th century! The church consists of two parts – the vaulted single-aisled nave and the small narthex, where the christening took place!
The party followed at the nearby Forviotissa restaurant which was wonderfully decorated and included a beautiful candy table! While the food was being prepared I took the opportunity to shoot more formal photographs of all the family and friends.
I would like to extend my thanks to Christiana and her family for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their very special day! It truly was a great privilege and experience for me.
